SLEEP THERAPY (OSA)

Your ADVANTAGE in Sleep Therapy

Sleep apnea is a disorder affecting about 18-20 million Americans and has the potential for serious or even fatal complications. Apnea comes from the Greek word that stands for "want of breath". Sleep apnea is a chronic health problem & is also a progressive condition which can worsen over time.

Persons with sleep apnea actually stop breathing for short periods of time during sleep. These pauses in breathing can last anywhere from ten to thirty seconds (or more) and can occur as much as four hundred times per night in those with severe sleep apnea.

The sudden decreases in oxygen levels that occur with sleep apnea place a burden on the heart which must work harder in an attempt to deliver sufficient oxygen to all tissues. This strain can cause the development of high blood pressure in approximately half of those suffering from sleep apnea which can increase the risks of stroke and heart failure.

Symptoms of sleep apnea include:

  • Loud and habitual snoring
  • Choking, gasping or gagging during sleep
  • Bed partner noticing repeated silences in breathing
  • Headaches upon awakening
  • Not feeling rested upon awakening
  • Daytime sleepiness or frequent napping
  • Falling asleep at inappropriate times during the day
  • High blood pressure
  • Problems with memory & attention span
  • Personality changes or even Depression

Sleep Apnea has serious health consequences and can even be life threatening. If you or your partner suffer from any of these symptoms consult your physician immediately. The sleep deprivation that is a result of sleep apnea affects both the sleeper & their bed partner.

Why Choose ADVANTAGE HOME OXYGEN for your treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea? Only an Advantage Respiratory Practitioner will set-up, fit and educate the OSA patient. We work closely with both the client and their doctor establishing a personal communication which can be essential to long term compliance.

Compliance means using your equipment every night. Advantage has a wide range of mask interfaces from a variety of manufacturers to make our clients as comfortable as possible. Improper mask fit can result in discomfort as well as mask leaks which can limit the positive effects of CPAP treatment.

Advantage offers a full range of Positive Airway Pressure devices. Whether your doctor orders a CPAP, Bi-Level or Auto PAP device, Advantage has you covered. We also offer models with smart card technology for download of compliance reports (for your doctors records) which many insurances now require for continued coverage.
